In past generations, living in the Bronx was often seen as the last resort for those wanting to find a home in NYC. It was filled with unfriendly people, high crime rates, and unpleasant spaces.

Although the Bronx has taken significant steps to reduce the issues driving people away, the borough is still dealing with past stigmas and negative connotations.

These Bronx neighborhoods are great places to consider if you’re considering moving to NYC or finding a new spot to call home.

1. Riverdale

This neighborhood is where those with wealth and influence used to visit during the summer. It’s a place where you’ll get the classic American suburban feeling while enjoying a well-manicured experience along each block. You’re only a few minutes away from NYC’s constant energy while having a moment to step back and take a breath when you need it.

2. Morris Park

When you live in this neighborhood, you’re in one of the safest places in all of NYC. It’s named after John Albert Morris, who built the racecourse in the area that operated from 1889 to 1910. Several of the streets here are named after past mayors of New York City from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Most of the homes in this neighborhood are single or two-family properties of various styles.

3. Bedford Park

If you prefer to live in a quiet neighborhood that feels like it came straight out of NYC’s past, this place is where you want to be. Your new home will be close to the botanical gardens and in a culturally diverse area.

4. Kingsbridge

This Bronx neighborhood is right next to Manhattan. It has risen in popularity because of its location, but the transportation infrastructure is also worth considering. You can access the Metro-North Road Railroad and the D train to get where you need to be.

Several recreational opportunities are available with a home here, including Van Cortlandt Park. You can visit vintage homes, enjoy a good hike, or play baseball. Several single-family houses are available to consider, which makes it feel like you’ve got some elbow room without sacrificing access to everything you love about NYC.

5. Mott Haven

If you own a vehicle in NYC, you should consider this Bronx neighborhood. Although its reputation isn’t as strong as others, you’ll have fast access to the bridges and roads that take you to Manhattan or Queens.

You’ll find three historic districts in this neighborhood to explore. The Bertine Block is an NYC favorite, with numerous yellow-faced brick brownstones to see that Ed Bertine built in the late 19th century.

6. Fordham

You can visit the zoo and the botanical gardens easily with a home in this Bronx neighborhood since both will be near your new address. There is also a stretch of dining and shopping districts for you to enjoy.

Little Italy is also your neighbor when living here, so a cruise along Arthur Avenue always seems like a great idea. You’ll have access to all the amenities you love while life becomes exciting.

7. Pelham Bay

This neighborhood provides the classic middle-class experience in NYC. It’s named after the city’s largest park, along the northeastern border. Most of it is on land that Thomas Pell purchased in 1654 as part of a Dutch West India Company grant.
